Verbier Festival Philanthropy Forum<\/h1>\n

From 2018 until 2022, the Verbier Festival Foundation and Swiss Philanthropy Foundation have established a strong collaboration by joining forces to jointly develop annual meetings around philanthropy as part of the Verbier Classical Music Festival: the Verbier Festival Philanthropy Forum.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each year, the Forum’s public debate encouraged discussion and exchange on current issues and challenges in philanthropy. The magnificent setting of Verbier, together with the Festival’s global standing and exceptional concerts, provided an ideal environment to reflect on generosity and the commitment that it requires.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2022 Edition<\/h2>\n

In, <\/span>2021 <\/span>this debate<\/span> explored ways in which the power of philanthropy can be harnessed for the planet. For the 2022 edition, <\/span>the <\/span>discussion centered<\/span> on <\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/span>How can philanthropy be more impactful in an <\/span>a<\/span>ge <\/span>of <\/span>d<\/span>isruption<\/span>?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u2019<\/span>. <\/span>The event took place on <\/span><\/span>Saturday<\/span> July 2<\/span>3<\/span>,<\/span> from <\/span>3<\/span> to 4:30 pm<\/span><\/span><\/strong> at the Verbier Cinema<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Public Debate<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is philanthropy\u2019s role in a society where incredible challenges<\/span>\u2014<\/span>the pandemic, climate change,\u202fa war at Europe’s doorstep<\/span><\/span>,\u202f<\/span><\/span>to name just a few\u2014force us to question the fundamentals of our living together? Disruptive effects on vital ecosystems\u2014nature, social, health, economy\u2014are poised to be inevitable and irreversible. Despite the collective awareness of the urgency to act, concrete action and real change is slow to be implemented, notwithstanding a number of remarkable initiatives here and there. The 2022 Verbier Philanthropy Forum brung into focus this important topic and explored ways to make philanthropy more impactful in a world of disruption.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speakers<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year’s Forum featured four speakers whose unique profiles and commitments led to a lively and deep discussion: <\/span>Maria Cattaui<\/span><\/b>, Global Board Member of the Open Society Foundations; <\/span>Yves Daccord<\/span><\/b>, former Director of the ICRC and President of the Edgelands Institute; <\/span>Jeremy Farrar<\/span><\/b>, Director of the Wellcome Trust; and <\/span>Beatrice Fihn<\/span><\/b>, Executive Director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). The panel was moderated by <\/span>Etienne Eichenberger,<\/span><\/b> Chairman of Swiss Philanthropy Foundation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the first time, the Forum was streamed live (access upon resgistration), allowing audiences from around the world to be inspired and define ideas for action together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
