The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Education Day<\/a> to celebrate the role of education for peace and development.<\/p>\n

As a host foundation, Swiss Philanthropy Foundation has developed a cluster of support and expertise for education and employment. This is achieved both through our own Education & Employment thematic Fund<\/a>, which has supported numerous initiatives for the integration of disadvantaged young people in Switzerland and throughout the world, and through the philanthropic initiatives of donors to our hosted funds, which we have been hosting for many years and which support projects in the field of education.<\/p>\n

This is the case, for example, of the Sanlaville fund, which supports the Axxis<\/a> association. Axxis offers MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) to teachers in order to train them to adapt their courses to the different challenges of the 21st century, such as global warming and the protection of the planet, the problems of access to water and quality food, multiculturalism and population movements. Thanks to the lessons on offer (philosophy, meditation, the scientific approach, society and art), they can then pass on to their pupils the skills needed to respond to the challenges of our society.<\/p>\n

For its part, the Eduq fund supports several organisations active in the field of education, and in particular the Reliance<\/a> association, which offers individualised tutoring to young people with learning difficulties, training, and in a fragile socio-economic situation in several Geneva communes. In 2021, 132 tutors supported 152 young people for 6,500 hours.<\/p>\n

From April 2019 to March 2022, the Espoir Fund supported a project by Ikamva Youth<\/a>, which aims to set up a tutoring programme by volunteer former beneficiaries for 709 vulnerable young people in two townships in Cape Town, South Africa. The aim is to enable the young people to continue their secondary education and to pass the exam to access higher education. For the selection and monitoring of this project, the donors benefited from the expertise of our partner WISE-philanthropy advisors<\/a>. This is an agile, efficient and effective project model, which is being replicated throughout the country and has a real qualitative impact, particularly through the many volunteer tutors.<\/p>\n
