Covid-19 Rapid Response Fund Final Report: A Successful Donor Collaboration

In 2020, at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, Swiss Philanthropy Foundation set up a collaboration of 16 donors of different profiles to help NGOs previously supported through the Foundation’s thematic funds to navigate through the challenges of the crisis. Seven foundations, five private philanthropists and four nominative funds hosted by Swiss Philanthropy Foundation have collaborated to respond quickly and effectively to the critical needs of these field partners in developing countries.

Thanks to these generous contributions the fund received USD 665,498 in 2020, of which USD 250,000 was co-financed by Swiss Philanthropy Foundation in a matching fund mechanism, to support 20 organizations in eight countries. These organizations were able to receive substantial support and survive as many donors withdrew in response to an uncertain global economy in 2020 and 2021. By funding key employees on the ground, the fund has helped support the most vulnerable beneficiaries through the provision of basic necessities and pandemic prevention campaigns.

Mandated by Swiss Philanthropy Foundation in the framework of this fund, WISE philanthropy advisors conducted a detailed analysis of the number of beneficiaries supported and noted in particular the success of this project in terms of the number of beneficiaries supported. The total reached 46,721 people (46,503 beneficiaries and 218 employees of 20 NGOs), which is 30% more than the initial objective of 35,778 people.
