The thirteenth edition of the Philanthropy Master Class took place from 19 to 21 August 2026 at the Château de Bossey. Over the course of three days, 30 professionals from the tax, banking and legal sectors, donors, and foundation staff came together to deepen their understanding of the Swiss philanthropic ecosystem, its recent developments and their implications.
This continuing professional development programme is organised by the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation (SPF) in partnership with the Centre for Philanthropy Studies (CEPS) at the University of Basel and the Centre for Philanthropy at the University of Geneva (GCP). This year, the event brought together nine speakers and four panellists. They shared their expertise, experiences and perspectives on current issues in philanthropy.
As a reflection of society, philanthropy is constantly evolving. These changes have repercussions both for those who establish and run foundations as well as for the professionals who support donors in their philanthropic endeavours.
Furthermore, the philanthropy sector continues to grow. In 2025, Switzerland had 13,782 active foundations, demonstrating the importance and dynamism of this ecosystem.
The Master Class was launched in 2012 in response to these changes and trends. This year, the various modules covered recent developments in philanthropy, as well as regulatory and ethical issues. Governance, the selection of causes and the various philanthropic vehicles, as well as collaborative practices within the sector, sustainable finance and taxation were also discussed.

Beyond the knowledge imparted, the Master Class is also a space for meeting and dialogue. The diversity of the participants reflects that of the philanthropic ecosystem and encourages exchanges between people with complementary experiences and areas of expertise.
In addition, the programme places great emphasis on testimonials from philanthropists and practitioners. Informal networking opportunities are also encouraged.

It was with these words that Alexandra Bilak, Director of the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, opened this latest edition.
The Master Class also comprises an alumni network of over 300 people. The new cohort also had the opportunity to meet participants from previous years at a drinks reception. Participants will also be able to catch up with their peers at dedicated events organised by SPF.

The Master Class is therefore not limited to three days of training. It helps to forge lasting links between the people who drive philanthropy in Switzerland. Furthermore, it encourages the sharing of experiences and strengthens collaboration within the sector.
